Legends and Stories: This temple is very old and has many stories attached to it. One story says that a part of a goddess named Satti fell here, making this place very powerful and holy. There’s also a tale about a demon that troubled people and how the goddess helped to defeat him.
History of the Temple: The temple that we see today was built in 1905 because an earthquake had destroyed the old one. But even before that, this temple had been attacked and rebuilt many times. Long ago, kings and emperors fought over it because it had a lot of treasure.
How the Temple Looks: The temple looks like a small fort with big walls. The main door has a special music room. Inside, the goddess is worshiped in a special form, and there are other smaller temples too. There’s a belief that one of the idols sweats when the town is in trouble!
Festivals at the Temple: People celebrate many festivals here. During Lohri, they put butter on the goddess’s statue. Other big festivals include Navratras, celebrated twice a year, and also Datta Jayanti, Holi, Diwali, and a few more. There’s a big fair every year that many people attend.
Getting There: The temple is in the middle of Kangra town. You can get there by bus, taxi, or train. The nearest train station is called Kangra, and there’s also a bigger station in Pathankot. The closest airport is 13 kilometers away in Gaggal.
Best Time to Visit: You can visit the temple any time of the year, but it’s very crowded during the Navratras festivals.
